From blatant misogyny to unrealistic beauty standards, we have a laundry list of reasons to detest the Ms. America pageant. But this year, our feelings are slightly different thanks to the courageous Ms. Michigan.
All of the pageant contestants affiliate themselves with a cause, usually related to world hunger or world peace (insert Ms. Congeniality joke here). When the women competing introduce themselves in the beginning of the pageant, they also exclaim a tagline about their passion projects. Unlike her competitors, Ms. Michigan used the opportunity to shed light on a problem happening in her state: the Flint water crisis.
